Characteristics

Stem 300-750 mm tall, medium to stout, simple or branched at the base, frequently more than one branch arising from the same rootstock, ± glabrous to scabrous or pubescent, hairs often bifarious. Leaves ascending-spreading; petiole 2-14 mm long; blade 50-122 x 20-70 mm, narrowly ovate, oblong or elliptic to broadly oblong or broadly ovate, ± glabrous or pubescent above, ± glabrous to scabrous or pubescent below, margins scabrous. Inflorescence umbellate, 3-12(-18)-flowered, sessile or pedunculate at nodes and terminal, or rarely 2 or more terminal inflorescences; peduncles up to 45 mm long, ± glabrous to puberulous to scabrous or pubescent. Bracts 3-9 mm long, linear or linear-lanceolate, acute-acuminate, pubescent on margins and below. Pedicels 14-30 mm long, puberulous to scabrous or pubescent. Sepals 5-14 x 3-8 mm, lanceolate or narrowly ovate to ovate or broadly ovate, rarely elliptic to suborbicular, acute or acute-acuminate, glabrous above, pubescent below. Corolla 9-14(-20) mm long, lobed almost to the base; lobes spreading horizontally or reflexed-spreading, white to cream or dull yellow, glabrous above, glabrous or puberulous below or both surfaces scaberulous. Corona lobes (5-)7-14 mm long, dilated at the horizontal base into 2 deltoid or rhomboid rounded auricles 2.0-3.0 mm long and spreading 0.8-2.5 mm transversely, then abruptly inflated into a narrowly linear, linear-spathulate or spathulate blade (3.5-)5.5-0.0 mm long, channelled down the back and convex down the inner face, apex obtuse, subacute, bilabiate or emarginate, beyond the auricles the lobe curves upwards and inwards over the style apex, at the base of the lobe a pair of contiguous subfalcate keels 1.2-2.0 mm long, 1.0-3.0 mm high, with the inner margins straight and the outer margins rounded-obtuse, corona lobes and keels white or cream. Anther wings 1.5-3.8 mm long, vertical, outer margin ± straight or concave with the basal angle upcurved and pointing outwards; appendages 1.0-2.7 mm long, broadly ovate, obtuse, curved over and covering the style apex. Follicle 70-100 mm long, broadly ovoid to orbicular, obtuse, upper part winged, glabrous.
