Characteristics

A screwpine or pandanus 'palm'. It grows 9 m tall. The trunk is 8 cm across. The leaves are 2.7-2.9 m long and 6 cm wide. They are dark green above and more pale underneath. There are prickles along the edge. They are 4-5 mm long. Male flowers hang down from the top of the plant. It has a stalk 65 cm long. The fruit is hidden by bracts The fruit is 14 cm long by 12 cm wide. It is made up of about 576 individual fruit or nuts. These are 3-4 cm long by 9-11 mm wide.
