Characteristics

Flowers: panicle slightly contracted; spikelets 3.2-4.5 mm long; lower glume broadly ovate; up to 1/2 length of spikelet; 3-5-nerved; not separated from upper glume; upper glume and lower lemma 7-9-nerved; lower floret male with palea well developed; upper female-fertile lemma pale and dull.
