Annual; culms 30–65 cm. high, much branched, slender.. Leaf-blades linear, 8–14 cm. long, 3–9 mm. wide, straight at the base, flat, glabrous, membranous, acute.. Panicle ovate or oblong, 14–18 cm. long, very sparsely branched, the primary branches long, slender, spreading or reflexed, the secondary branches short, generally appressed.. Spikelets narrowly ovate, 2.2–2.5 mm. long; lower glume 1/3 the length of the spikelet, broadly ovate, clasping, faintly 5-nerved; upper glume ovate, 9-nerved, acute; lower lemma ovate, 9-nerved, sterile, its palea absent; upper floret pale and glossy.
