Characteristics

Loosely tufted annual to 600 mm high; geniculate; hispid due tobulbous-based hairs at least on leaf sheaths; culm nodes adpressed hairy. Leaf blade to 200 x to 15 mm. Inflorescence 100-200 mm long; extends beyond apex of uppermost leaf, but base is enclosed in uppermost leaf; broadly ovate, branches long, flexuous, spreading; densely scabrid below spikelets, prickles 0.10-0.15 mm long. Spikelet 2.0-2.5 mm long, narrowly ovate; lower glume 1/2-2/3 the spikelet length, 5-nerved; upper glume (7-)9-nerved; lower floret sterile, lemma (7-)9-nerved, palea conspicuously reduced, much shorter than lower lemma; upper floret pale to dark, smooth, shiny.
More
Annual, loosely tufted (geniculate), up to 0.6 m high. Leaf blades up to 200 mm long, up to 15 mm wide. Bulbous-based hairs at least on leaf sheaths. Spikelets 2.0-2.5 mm long. Inflorescence extending beyond tip of uppermost leaf, but base enclosed in uppermost leaf, broadly ovate, branches long, flexuous, spreading, densely scabrid with prickles 0.10-0.15 mm long just below spikelets; lower glume up to two-thirds the length of spikelet; upper glume and lower lemma (7-)9-nerved; lower floret sterile with palea conspicuously reduced; female-fertile (upper) floret pale to dark, smooth and shiny.
Spikelets, 2.2–2.5 mm. long; narrowly ovate, inferior glume broadly ovate, 1/2 the length of the spikelet, 5-nerved, acute or acuminate; superior glume as long as the spikelet, 7–9-nerved, acute; inferior lemma similar to the superior glume, its palea poorly developed, sterile; superior lemma and palea glossy.
An annual grass. It has stiff rough hairs. It grows 30-60 cm high. The leaf blade is 6-20 cm long. It is narrow and tapers to the tip. The flowering panicle is 10-20 cm long. It has many branches. The spikelets are about 2 mm long. They are narrowly oval.
Leaf laminae 6–20 cm. long, linear to narrowly lanceolate, acuminate or tapering to a finely pointed apex.
Panicle 10–20 cm. long, ovate, much branched, the branches spreading or ascending, flexuous.
Hispid annual with branching culms 30–60 cm. high.
