Inflorescences terminal on short leafy lateral branches and occasionally on the main branches, often congested; flowers sessile and subtended by opposite bracts, or shortly pedicellate.

Placenta small, bearing 2–3 pendulous ovules (or in Madagascar up to 7, arranged along the margins and at top, fide De Block pers. com.).
Seeds 2–4 (or more in Madagascar) per fruit, reddish-brown, with a shallow elongated hilar groove, smooth.
Corolla salver-shaped; tube densely covered with appressed hairs outside, pubescent within.
Leaves chartaceous, pubescent or glabrous, mature at time of flowering.
Calyx limb-tube bearing triangular to sublinear lobes (TAB. 73/A1).
Stipules triangular-apiculate, caducous.
