Characteristics

Shrub or small treee 4.5–12(–20) m. tall; young branches densely covered with short brown hairs.. Leaf-blades usually oblong, sometimes elliptic to obovate-elliptic, top slightly acuminate, subacute, base attenuate, (3.5–)9–11(–13) by (2–)2.5–4(–7) cm., chartaceous to subcoriaceous, glabrous above except sometimes on midrib, appressed hairy only on midrib and sometimes nerves beneath, ultimately glabrescent, margin regularly subserrate-crenate (teeth 1–1.5 mm. long, hairy at tips); midrib prominent beneath; lateral nerves 7–14 pairs, straight or curved; venation distinct; petiole slender, 4–8 mm. long, yellowish pubescent.. Flowers axillary, solitary or 2–3 in a cluster.. Sepals lanceolate-oblong or oblong, (6–)10–25 by 3–10 mm., brownish tomentellous outside, greyish puberulous inside.. Petals similar to sepals, but narrower and slightly shorter, greenish yellow or cream.. Corona laciniate, 3–4 mm. long, sometimes indistinctly divided into 5 bundles, tomentose outside.. Filaments 6–10 mm. long; anthers linear or linear-oblong, 2.5–3.5 mm. long.. Gynophore 0–1.5 mm. long; ovary tomentose; styles slender, 2–5 mm. long, tomentose.. Capsule ovoid-globose to subglobose, 1.2–2.5(–3) by 1.5–2.5 cm., tomentose, sometimes glabrescent.
