Perennial; culms 10-30 cm. long, in small rather loose tufts, erect or decum-bent at the base, rooting and branching at the lower nodes, the nodes glabrous or sparsely appressed-pubescent; sheaths compressed, hairy on the collar, the margins glabrous or ciliate, especially toward the summit; blades 2.5-9 cm. long, 2-5 mm. wide, rounded at the base, glabrous or with a few hairs on the upper surface near the base; racemes 2-8, ascending or spreading, 1.5-5 cm. long, the rachis narrowly winged, about 0.8 mm. wide; spikelets 1.3-1.7 mm. long, elliptic or ovate-elliptic, subacute, glabrous, the glume and sterile lemma equal, pointed beyond the fruit, thin; fruit 1.1-1.5 mm. long, pale or brownish.
