Characteristics

Shrubs or small trees with glabrous branches. Leaves alternate, often clustered at the ends of the branches; leaf-blade lanceolate to elliptic, glabrous, midrib raised on both sides. Inflorescence terminal, umbellate or rarely racemose. Flowers 4–5-merous. Calyx-tube cylindric. Petals none. Stamens 8–10 in two whorls on the upper portion of the calyx-tube. Ovary sessile or shortly stipitate, 2-chambered; disc cup-shaped, entire, dentate or lobed, rarely ciliated; style filiform. Fruit a drupe. Seed 1 (–2).
