Stems 4–6 dm; lvs lanceolate, 2–5 cm wide, deeply pinnatifid, the lance-oblong segments again shallowly pinnatifid; cal subequally 5-lobed, the lobes oblong, foliaceous, 4–6 mm, erose; cor yellow, 16–20 mm, the galea with 4 very short teeth near the tip. Banks of rivers, typically in fairly wet but well drained soil, along with Alnus viridis; St. John R. valley, Me. and N.B. July, Aug.
