Herbs perennial, 25--27 cm tall. Stems 5--10, cespitose, dark brown, pubescent. Leaves in whorls of 4; petiole 3--5 mm; leaf blade elliptic to cordate, ca. 2.5 X 1.5--2 cm, pinnatipartite; segments oblique, serrate. Inflorescences racemose, dense, 3--5-flowered; bracts flabellate, ca. 1.1 cm X 4--5 mm, apex 3-cleft. Pedicel ca. 2 mm. Calyx ± saccate, ca. 1.2 cm; lobes 2, navicular, ca. 8 X 5 mm, slightly fine pubescent along veins. Corolla purple, cylindric, ca. 3.1 X 1.2 cm; galea short beaked; lower lip rounded; middle lobe smaller than lateral lobes, barely 3 mm wide, lateral lobes rounded, large. Stamens (4 or)5; filaments densely pubescent. Fl. Aug.
