Spike 2–20 cm. long, exserted from the uppermost sheath, the spikelets loose, distant by several times their own width (but occasionally much denser), spreading horizontally.. Spikelets 2.5–3.5 mm. long, with a conspicuous stipitiform callus 0.5–1 mm. long; glumes irregularly puberulous to sparsely hispidulous on the flanks, the midnerve of the upper glume broad, green, slightly depressed, spinulose-scabrid; awns slender, flexuous, 5–15 mm. long..
