Petals 8, obovate, clawed, imbricate, very thin, expanded during anthesis. Stamens 45–50, multiseriate, free; filaments filiform; anthers elongate-oblong, basifixed. Ovary 1-locular, shortly stipitate, with 4 lateral rapidly growing wings, with 2 multi-ovulate placentas; style filiform; stigma punctiform. Capsule subglobular, the upper part provided with 4 ascending or ± vertical, almost linear subacute wings; pericarp crustaceous. Seeds 1 or 2, globular, with a red shallowly cup-shaped aril..
