Characteristics

Shrub 1-2 m tall. Branchlets hoary. Leaves simple, terete, to c. 15 mm long, minutely scabrous, obtuse, with a very short, acute to blunt point, sometimes slightly reflexed, usually appressed, imbricate, covered with fine, short, straight hairs, glabrescent. Inflorescence ±ovoid, terminal, sessile, to c. 18 mm diam.; involucral bracts numerous, prominent, imbricate, narrowly ovate, acuminate, slightly but not noticeably glutinous, fringed with fine, long, white hairs; tips often reflexed, drying dark brown or black; cone scales linear to lanceolate; base villous. Flowers to c. 20 mm long, cream, villous. Pollen presenter c. 6 mm long overall, slightly swollen or truncate below the brush; brush yellow, shortly hairy. Cones ovoid or slightly cup-shaped due to persistence of involucral bracts, to c. 18 mm diam. Nuts c. 4 mm long.
