Perennial, decumbent dwarf shrub, with creeping stems 0.03-0.25 m long, woody at base, the youngest white. Leaves alternate, crowded at top of stems, up to 30 mm long, spreading; stipules decurrent, sheathing, varying in length to almost as long as leaves. Inflorescences terminal; peduncles up to 250 mm long, terminating in a whorl of leaves and umbel-like pseudoracemes. Nectariferous disc red or yellow, of 3 or 5 obtuse, truncate segments. Stigmas red or yellow, erect, revolute. Flowering time Aug.-Oct. Fruit an ovoid, loculicidal, 3-5-valved capsule, longer than perianth. Seeds black, shining, globose-biconvex.
