Leaf 40–100 × 3–5 mm, bright green, sparsely hairy. Flower stem 50–150 mm tall, very thin and wiry, sparsely hairy, 1-flowered. Flowers 25–35 × 30–40 mm, bright blue, rarely pinkish, white or yellow. Dorsal sepal 12–15 × 4 mm, erect or recurved. Lateral sepals 10–13 × 4 mm, obliquely deflexed, nearly parallel. Petals 10–13 × 4 mm. Labellum 7–10 × 5–6 mm, obscurely 3-lobed; lateral lobes erect, entire; midlobe triangular, recurved, dark purple, fringed with slender teeth. Calli slender, crowded, in 4–8 rows, of 2 types, basal ones appearing spiky, distal ones smooth. Column 9–11 × 3 mm, blue, hairy.
Widespread and abundant from the coast to inland areas; found growing in a wide range of habitats including coastal scrub, heath, heathy forest, open forest, woodland and mallee vegetation in freely draining sand and clay loam; also occurs in moss pockets on granite outcrops in W.A.
