Characteristics

Woody liane. Leaves with petiole 10–25 mm long; lamina elliptic-oblong, to 15 cm long, to 5 cm wide, cuneate at base, acute to acuminate; secondary veins 13–15 on each side of midrib, prominent beneath. Flowers c. 15 mm long, c. 25 mm diam.; pedicels 7–8 mm long. Corolla rotate; tube much reduced; lobes lanceolate, c. 12 mm long, 4 mm wide, maroon inside, cream outside, pubescent. Corolline corona consisting of raised tissue around stamen filaments and style base. Filaments fused to base of corolla and alternate with lobes. Follicles woody, fusiform-ovoid, c. 9 cm long.
