Characteristics

Perennial, succulent herb, creeping stems 0.1-0.2 m long; with ± short upright branches; rooting at nodes. Leaves sessile, decussate, ovate, apices obtuse. Stipule sheath cupular, toothed. Flowers heterostylous; sessile, axillary, solitary or in pairs. Calyx irregularly lobed, ± lacerate, persistent in fruit. Corolla 4-lobed, white or pinkish; lobes ± lanceolate; tube funnel-shaped. Stamens 4, arising in corolla mouth, exserted. Ovary 2-locular, 1 ovule per locule; stigmas hairy. Flowering time Nov.-May. Fruit small, indehiscent, ± ellipsoid, laterally compressed, hidden in stipular sheath.

Leaves 0.7–2.3 x 0.3–1 cm., oblong-elliptic to oblong, rounded to subacute at apex, usually ± mucronate, narrowed at the base but sessile on to the petiole sheath; stipule sheath up to 8 mm. long with 1 to several short lobes scarcely 0.5 mm. long.
Short-styled flowers with anthers 2.4 mm. long, versatile, the filaments exserted 1.5 cm.; tips of stigmatic lobes exserted for about 1 mm.
Long-styled flowers with anthers 1.7 mm. long and about 2/3 exserted; style exserted 2.5 mm. the stigmatic lobes 1.2 mm. long.
Fleshy glabrous herb with long decumbent stems; stems branched, the branches smooth, flattened and deeply grooved one face.
Succulent, creeping perennial. Leaves opposite, ovate, fleshy, stipules sheathing. Flowers solitary in axils, white.
Corolla white or pinkish; tube 4–5 mm. long; lobes 3–4 x 1.5–1.7 mm., oblong-elliptic, ± oblique at apex.
Calyx tube 2 mm. long, the limb ± 2 mm. long, erose or with triangular lobes ± 1 mm. long and wide.
Upper stems mostly pale, lower and rhizomes darker, apparently with a reddish dye.
Fruits 3–6 x 2–4 mm.; seeds c. 3.5 mm. long.
