Leaves alternate, petiolate, elobate, penninerved, toothed, eglandular. Inflorescences axillary, racemiform, unisexual, with flowers in bracteate clusters. Male flowers pedicellate; calyx lobes 2, imbricate, free; petals absent; disc absent; stamens 10–12, filaments free at base; anthers dorsifixed, bilobate, thecae oblong and longitudinally dehiscent; pistillodes absent. Female flowers pedicellate; calyx lobes 2 or 3, imbricate, free; petals absent; disc absent; ovary 2-or 3-locular, ovules uniloculate; styles 3, united at base, entire. Fruit drupaceous, tri-or quadrilobate, surface smooth, indehiscent, fleshy. Seeds globose to subreniform; testa crustaceous; albumen fleshy; ecarunculate; cotyledons broad, flat.
