Characteristics

Slender perennial herb, 25–65 cm., with a narrow to somewhat thicker tuberous root.. Stem terete, glabrous or pilose towards the base, striate, sparingly to moderately branched with slender branches.. Basal leaves simply pinnate, oblong in outline, 4–25 × 1.8–7.5 cm.; leaflets in (1–)2–3 pairs, broadly ovate or obovate-flabellate, blunt or with a sharp larger terminal tooth, sometimes unilaterally incised, 10–45 × 10–48 mm, the laterals ± sessile and the terminal shortly to more longly petiolulate, glabrous or with brownish multicellular hairs along at least the lower side of the principal venation, rather regularly sharply serrulate with mucronate teeth; petioles 2.5–13 cm., brownish pilose; sheaths oblong, striate, pilose and marginally ciliate, gradually narrowed to the petiole, 1–3.5 cm.; median stem leaves similar, smaller and more shortly petiolate, leaflets more sharply serrate; uppermost leaves rapidly reduced, more narrowly dissected, sessile on the sheaths.. Umbels of (3–)5–8 striate, glabrous rays 0.7–2 cm. long, the lateral umbels apparently functionally ♂; involucre absent; partial umbels 5–10-flowered; pedicels 2–8 mm., glabrous; involucel absent; peduncles 1–4 cm.. Calyx absent Petals creamy-white to white, oblong-elliptic, ± 1 mm., with 3–5 purplish or brownish oil vittae, glabrous.. Ovary glabrous.. Fruit ovoid, somewhat laterally compressed, ± 3–4 mm., blackish with green ribs when ripe, glabrous; stylopodia shortly conical, sloping continuously with the mericarps; styles 0.75–1.5 mm., slender, deflexed, glabrous, equalling or sometimes exceeding the stylopodia..
