Characteristics

Perennial herb. Leaves 7–20 cm long including petiole; petiole glabrous, winged, broadened at base, with a tuft of axillary hairs; lamina narrowly oblanceolate-elliptic, 1.5–4 cm wide, long-attenuate at base, entire or sometimes with a few irregular, minute teeth, acute at apex, 5–9-veined. Scape 7–25 cm tall, shallowly grooved, pilose. Inflorescence cylindrical, 2–10 cm long. Sepals subequal, narrowly lanceolate, 3.5–4 mm long, keeled, narrowly acute. Corolla 3 mm long; lobes ovate, 1.5 mm long, acuminate, with a distinct midvein. Anthers ovoid, 1 mm long. Ovary 2-locular; ovules 2 per locule and 1 additional ovule separated at apex; style 4 mm long. Capsule ovoid, c. 2.5–3 mm long, 1–5-seeded. Seeds c. 1 mm long, pale brown.
