Characteristics

Tree, without latex, glabrous; branches subterete or slightly flattened or angular, unarmed, not forming short shoots. Leaves spiral, crenate-dentate, petiolate; stipules filiform, glandular-fimbriate, caducous. Inflorescence pedunculate, dichasial, single in axils of foliage leaves; bracts ± persistent. Flowers bisexual, shortly pedicellate, with pedicels articulated at the base. Sepals 5, unequal, imbricate, free, with margin glandular-fimbriate. Petals 5, imbricate in bud, spreading. Stamens 5, with filaments slightly flattened, arising below the disc; anthers basifixed, introrse, ?deciduous, with separate thecae dehiscing longitudinally. Disc intrastaminal, single, flat, 5-lobed. Ovary superior, sessile, half-immersed in the disc, (? 4–)5-locular, with 2 erect collateral ovules in each locule; style very short, thick, simple; stigma 5-branched. Fruit indehiscent, with 4–5 semicircular wings. Seed solitary, exarillate, ? with endosperm.
