Characteristics

Caespitose perennial. Culms erect, 34–50 cm high; mid-culm internodes densely puberulous. Young shoots intravaginal. Leaves: basal sheaths with margins connate in lower 1/4–2/3, shortly and sparsely or densely puberulous, often purplish; ligule 0.4–0.9 mm long (to 2 mm long on flag leaf), truncate, apically ciliolate, abaxially pubescent; blade folded or involute, 4.5–20 cm long, 1–3 mm wide when flattened, adaxially puberulous, abaxially densely puberulous or velutinous with spreading or inclined or reflexed hairs, greyish or bluish green. Panicles loosely contracted, 6.4–15.5 cm long. Spikelets 2.8–5.7 mm long, with 2–6 bisexual florets. Glumes 3-nerved; lower glume 1.7–2.1 mm long; upper glume 2.1–2.5 mm long. Web absent. Lemma 2.3–3.4 mm long, 5-nerved, usually with fine hairs on keel and marginal nerves in lower half; intercostal regions glabrous or occasionally sparsely puberulous. Anthers 1.8 mm long.
