Characteristics

Caespitose perennial. Culms 30–120 cm high; mid-culm internodes glabrous or scaberulous. Young shoots extravaginal and/or intravaginal. Leaves: basal sheaths with margins free, glabrous or minutely scabrous; ligule 0.4–0.6 mm long, truncate, apically ciliolate, abaxially scaberulous or puberulous; blade flat, folded or involute, 8–47 cm long, 0.4–3.8 mm wide, adaxially shortly and sparsely scabrous, abaxially glabrous or occasionally minutely scabrous. Panicles open or somewhat contracted, 7–32 cm long. Spikelets 4–6.2 mm long, with 2–6 bisexual florets. Glumes: lower glume 1 or 3-nerved, 2.1–3.2 mm long; upper glume 3-nerved, 2.3–3.4 mm long. Web absent or weakly developed. Lemma ±oblong in profile, 2.6–3.6 mm long, 5-nerved, glabrous, or with few hairs on midnerve and sometimes lateral nerves near base; intercostal regions glabrous or scaberulous. Anthers 1.8–2.2 mm long.
