Spikelets 2–4-flowered, broadly ovate, 5–6.5 mm. long, green, yellowish or purple; glumes narrowly lanceolate in side view, 1–3-nerved, the lower 3–5 mm. long, the upper 4–5 mm.; lemmas lanceolate in side view, 4.5–5 mm. long, acute, scabrid on the keel, with hyaline margins, woolly at the base; palea as long as the lemma, scaberulous on the keels; anthers 1.3–1.7 mm. long..
