Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Poa

Characteristics

Slender perennial, typically with long, many-noded leafy aerial stolons, often scandent, rarely simply caespitose. Young shoots mostly extravaginal, often fascicled at culm nodes. Mid-culm internodes glabrous, scaberulous or occasionally pilose immediately below node. Leaves: basal sheaths with margins connate from lower 2/3 to entire length but usually splitting, thin, glabrous or minutely puberulous, pale, rarely purplish; ligule 0.3–0.4 mm long, truncate, apically glabrous, abaxially glabrous; blade folded (often with margins angular-inrolled), (5–) 11.5–17 (–20) cm long, 0.3–0.6 mm wide, soft, thin, prominently nerved, adaxially puberulous, abaxially glabrous or scaberulous. Panicles open with rather few spikelets mostly towards ends of branches, 5.5–6.5 cm long. Spikelets 2.6–6.4 mm long, with 2 or 3 (–4) bisexual florets. Glumes: lower glume 1–1.5 mm long, (1–) 3-nerved; upper glume 1.2–1.6 mm long, (3–) 5-nerved, with marginal nerves short. Web absent. Lemma 2–2.2 (–3) mm long, 5-nerved, uniformly puberulous in lower half or occasionally glabrous. Anthers 1.2–1.4 mm long.
