Culms slender, erect, 4–8 dm, without rhizomes; lvs 1–2 mm wide, the longer ones crowded toward the base of the stem, the upper only 3–8 cm; ligule round-ovate, 1–2 mm; infl loose and open, often nodding, the slender branches paired, bearing spikelets above the middle; spikelets 4–6 mm, 2–4-fld; glumes narrowly ovate, obtuse, 3-veined, the first 2.5–3.5 mm; the second 3–3.8 mm; lemmas 2.5–4.5 mm, distinctly 5-veined, villous on the keel and marginal veins and webbed at the base; anthers 1.1–1.4 mm; 2n=28.
