Shrub or small tree to 12 m high, flowers and fruits as a single-stemmed shrub 2–4 m high (Zich et al. 2020). Shoots and branchlets reddish brown-hirsute. Leaves: petiole 1–4 mm long, rusty-hairy; lamina oblanceolate or elliptic, 6–19 cm long, 1.5–5.5 cm wide, rounded and slightly asymmetric at base, acuminate or obtuse at apex, bullate, hirsute; secondary veins 6–8 pairs. Flowers axillary, solitary; pedicel 5–9 mm long (very short or flowers ± sessile, fide Zich et al. 2020), hirsute; bract 2.5–3.5 mm long. Sepals triangular, 2.5–2.8 mm long, 2.7–3 mm wide, hirsute and puberulous. Petals 6 in 2 whorls of 3, cream to ± orange, tinged crimson/reddish on inside (cream, yellow, orange or brown outside and pink with reddish base on inside, fide Cooper & Cooper 2004: 23). Outer petals broadly ovate, c. 5 mm long, c. 4 mm wide, hirsute outside. Inner petals narrowly obovate, 5–5.5 mm long, 2.8–3 mm wide, pubescent outside, margins tomentose (the 3 inner petals joined to form a shelter over the stamens, fide Cooper & Cooper 2004: 23). Stamens c. 30–40, c. 1.2 mm long. Carpels mostly 5; ovaries c. 12 (fide Zich et al. 2020), 1–1.2 mm long, clothed in shiny, prostrate, rusty-brown hairs; ovules 2 per ovary; stigma capitate. Apocarps in clusters, subglobose, ovoid or shortly obloid, 10–17 mm long, 10–12 mm wide, black, hirsute; stipe (2–) 4–7 mm long. Seeds 1 or 2.
