Characteristics

Shrub to 4 m high. Shoots appressed-pubescent, glabrescent; branchlets hirsutellous or puberulous, glabrescent. Leaves: petiole 0.5–2 (–3) mm long; lamina narrowly ovate to lanceolate, 3–9 (–10) cm long, 1–3 cm wide, rounded and slightly asymmetric at base, acuminate at apex, glabrous above, glabrescent below; secondary veins mostly 6–9 pairs, inconspicuous. Flowers solitary, axillary; pedicel 3–11 mm long, c. 0.8 mm wide, appressed-puberulous, sometimes with a few erect hairs; bracts ovate, 0.8 mm long. Sepals triangular, incurved, 1.2–1.5 mm long, c. 1.5 mm wide, acute or acuminate, puberulous outside. Petals 6 in 2 whorls of 3, white-cream. Outer petals broadly ovate to triangular, 2.5–4 (–5) mm long, 2.5–3.5 mm wide, puberulous outside. Inner petals oblong, 3.5–5 mm long, 1.8–2.5 mm wide, obtuse, puberulous outside, joined at apex to form an arch over the stamens and ovaries. Stamens c. 30–45, 0.8–1 mm long. Carpels 2–6; ovaries c. 6 (fide Zich et al. 2020), c. 1 mm long; ovules 2 per ovary; stigma capitate. Apocarps in clusters, subglobose, (10–) 12–18 mm long, 8–16 mm wide, shiny black, glabrous or nearly so; stipe 0.5–2 (–3) mm long. Seeds 1 or 2.
