Characteristics

Shrub to 4 m high. Shoots pubescent; branchlets puberulous, glabrescent. Leaves: petiole 2–6 mm long; lamina lanceolate, 8–28 cm long, 2–6.5 cm wide, rounded or obtuse, asymmetric, sometimes slightly auriculate at base, acuminate at apex, glabrous; secondary veins 10–16 pairs. Flowers in cymose fascicles or sometimes solitary, cauline, ramal or axillary. Peduncle 1–10 mm long, persistent; pedicel 6–9 mm long, puberulous; bracts ovate. Perianth puberulous or tomentulose outside, glabrous inside. Sepals broadly ovate to triangular, 2.8–3.2 mm long, 3.8–4.2 mm wide (2 × 3 mm, fide Zich et al. 2020). Petals white-cream, tinged pink on inside. Outer petals broadly ovate to triangular, 5–8 mm long, 4–6 mm wide, free. Inner petals oblong, 7–10 mm long, 3–4.8 mm wide, obtuse, fused at apex, forming an arch over the ovaries and stamens and separating from one another at or following anthesis. Stamens c. 50, 1–1.3 mm long. Carpels 9–16; ovaries 15–25 (fide Zich et al. 2020), 1.3–1.5 mm long; ovules 2 or 3 per ovary; stigma capitate. Apocarps up to 10 in clusters, subglobose to ovoid or shortly obloid, (12–) 16–20 mm long, 10–14 mm wide, yellow to orange or orangy-brown, glabrescent; stipe 0–3 mm long. Seeds 1 or 2.
