Biennial, 4–11 dm, simple to the infl; basal lvs grass-like, linear or nearly so, acuminate, 3–12 cm, persistent in a rosette, the cauline similar but shorter; infl much branched, 6–20 cm wide, the numerous racemes 1–3, 1 cm thick, pedicels 1–2 mm; fls yellow, drying green; wings abruptly cuspidate, 2–4 mm, surpassing the cor; keel inflexed at the tip; fr didymous; seeds glabrous; 2n=64, 68. Acid sandy marshes and wet pine-barrens; Del. to Fla. and La. June–Aug. (Pilostaxis c.)
