Characteristics

Dwarf shrub or shrub, up to 2 m high; not spinescent. Stems virgately branched; glabrous or with a few scattered hairs. Leaves few and distant, appressed; blade narrowly linear, 7-20 x 1-5 mm, apex acute or obtuse, sometimes subulate, mucronulate. Flowers: in lax, many-flowered, terminal racemes; wings broadly obovate, ± 9 x 7 mm, greenish white with many, spreading, forked reddish brown veins; petals purple; Nov.-Apr.

Perennial dwarf shrub, 0.5-2.0 m high; stems little or very sparsely foliose. Leaves linear, 1.0-1.5 mm wide. Flowers papilionaceous, bracts and bracteoles up to 1 mm long, crest up to 3 mm long. Flowering time July-Apr. Seed with rough or hard hairs exceeding base of seed up to 1.5 mm, caruncle quite asymmetrical, with the odd branch double or more the length of the others.
