Characteristics

Branched shrub, erect, pubescent or glabrous, 0.3-2.0 m high. Leaves opposite, subsessile, lanceolate to ovate, cordate at base. Flowers in short racemes at tips of branchlets, papilionaceous, purple, inner sepals often green, side petals deeply unequally bilobed, lower lobe often longest. Flowering time Sept.-Nov. or all year. Fruit a membranous capsule, laterally compressed, 2 mm long, 2-celled with 1 ovule in each locule. Seed ellipsoid pubescent, with a well-developed caruncle.
