Characteristics

Arbustos o subarbustos. Hojas alternas, mas raramente opuestas. Flores en racimos terminales o laterales y patentes. Sepalos libres, persistentes, los externos carinados; alas grandes, cubren la capsula. Petalo superior profundamente bilobado a subentero; quilla ampliamente crestada. Estambres fertiles ocho. Capsula aplanado elipsoide o aplanado obovoide, alada. Semillas carunculadas, pubescentes. Arbustos de 1-2.5 m; hojas estrechamente el¡pticas, 2-5 mm de anchura; margen ligeramente revoluto, pero en la cara inferior siempre consp¡cuo.

Ericoid shrub, erect or sprawling, crisped or spreading pubescent, sometimes tomentose, 1.0-2.5 m high. Leaves alternate, rarely opposite, narrowly elliptic, coriaceous, rather dark, shiny, nearly glabrous above, lighter in colour and somewhat pubescent below, apex rounded to pointed, margins usually revolute. Flowers papilionaceous, mauve, purple or violet or occasionally white and mauve. Flowering time July-Nov. Fruit a membranous capsule, suborbicular, margins winged. Seed oblong-ellipsoid, sparsely pilose.
Leaves 10–25 x 2–5 mm., narrowly elliptic, chartaceous to almost coriaceous, rather dark, shiny and usually nearly glabrous above, lighter in colour and somewhat pubescent or pilosulose below, apex pointed, margins usually revolute.
Flowers mauve, purple or violet or occasionally white and mauve, pedicels 5–9 mm. long, solitary or in short lateral 2–50-flowered racemes up to about 1 cm. long.
Upper petals 6–7 x 2 mm., obliquely and irregularly oblong, forked at the apex nearly to the middle; carina 8 x 5.5 mm., ciliate on its proximal margin.
Posterior sepal 3 mm. long; wing sepals 10–12 x 6–8 mm., obliquely ovate, unguiculate, glabrous; anterior sepals 3 mm. long, free, ovate.
An ericoid shrub, erect or sprawling, up to 1–2.5 m. tall; stems densely crisped-or patent-pubescent sometimes tomentose.
Seeds 3.5 x 2.5 mm., oblong-ellipsoid, somewhat sparsely pilose; caruncular appendages about 1 mm. long.
Capsule 8 x 7.5 mm., suborbicular in outline, with a winged margin nearly 1 mm. broad.
Style 10 mm. long, ribbon-like, hooked at the apex and with incurved margins.
