Simple or branched annual, 1–4 dm; basal lvs narrowly elliptic to spatulate or obovate, obtuse, 1–3 cm, generally withering after anthesis, the cauline ones progressively narrower, becoming linear-oblong or linear; infl 5–15 cm wide, the racemes numerous, rather loose, 8–10 mm thick; pedicels 1–2 mm; fls yellow, drying dark green; wings acuminate, 3 mm, about equaling the cor; fr suborbicular; seeds finely pubescent; 2n=64. Pine-barren swamps on the coastal plain; s. N.J. to Fla. and Tex. June–Aug. (Pilostaxis r.)
