Herbs annus vel raro suffrutescentes. Flores in racemos terminales raro pseudolaterales dispositi. Sepala exteriora carinata; alae ellipticae vel suborbiculares. Capsula ellipsoidea, margine anguste alata, vel subaptera. Appendices quam semina breviores.

Erect perennial herb, up to 150 mm tall. Stems and leaves pilose. Leaves narrowly elliptic, 6-20 x 1-5 mm. Flowers in terminal racemes. Wings 2.5-4.0 mm long. Flowers pink or yellowish purple.
Flowers purple or purple and yellow with pedicels 1 mm. long in congested terminal racemes up to 5 cm. long (sometimes subcapitate); bracts and bracteoles 1–1.2 mm. long, persistent.
Posterior sepal 1.8 mm. long; wing sepals 3–4 x 1.5–1.8 mm., obliquely elliptic, rather markedly unguiculate, glabrous; anterior sepals 1.5 mm. long, free.
Leaves 6–20 x 1–5 mm., very narrowly elliptic or very narrowly oblong-elliptic to elliptic or oblong-elliptic, laxly pilose.
Perennial with slender, pilose, erect or subdecumbent sterns 5–25 cm. long produced annually from a woody rootstock.
Seeds 1.5 x 0.9 mm., ellipsoid, rather sparsely white-pubescent; caruncular appendages c. 1 mm. long, narrow.
Upper petals 3 x 1.2 mm., obliquely and irregularly oblanceolate; carina 3 x 1.5 mm., crest 1.2 mm. long.
Capsule c. 2.1 x 2.1 mm., suborbicular in outline, with a very narrow marginal wing, glabrous.
