Characteristics

Annual, caespitose. Culms slender, 10–45 cm high, unbranched above. Leaves: basal sheaths glabrous; ligule dentate; blade 3–8 cm long, 1–2 mm wide, adaxially scabrous. Panicles 1.5–7 cm long. Spikelets 2.5–3 mm long, appearing densely bearded at base. Glumes narrowly ovate, subequal, 2.5–3 mm long, acute, entire, with subapical awn 5.5–10 mm long or awnless, keeled, 1-nerved, glabrous or ciliolate or ciliate, scaberulous. Lemma narrowly ovate, 2/3 length of glumes, 2–2.5 mm long, acute, bidentate; awn robust, 13.5–19 mm long, dorsal, geniculate, twisted. Palea narrowly ovate, 1/2 length of lemma.
