Flowering and non-flowering plants dissimilar, growing singly or in small groups. Non-flowering plants consist of a glabrous leaf, 8–18 × 6–8 mm, dark green and white with a red underside. Flowering plants leafless, consisting of a wiry glabrous flower stem, 200–450 mm tall, with single flower. Flower 25–35 × 25–35 mm, cream to creamy yellow with brighter yellow tips, fragrant, labellum purple, green and yellow with yellow-tipped calli, lateral lobes with purplish streaks, midlobe purple with a yellow apex, column translucent green with red or purple bars. All tepals with attenuate pointed tips. Dorsal sepal 18–25 × 3–3.5 mm, erect to recurved. Lateral sepals 16–23 × 4–5 mm, divergent. Petals 15–22 × 3–3.5 mm, porrect, often curved. Labellum curved in a circle, 8–13 × 6–8 mm, 3-lobed; lateral lobes erect, entire; midlobe constricted, recurved. Calli stalked, clubbed, in 2 rows to midlobe. Column 8.5–9.5 × 4–4.5 mm.
Widespread and locally common, particularly on coastal plains; found growing in low scrub, heath and open forest in freely draining sand, moist peaty sand and loam.
