Scandent shrub up to 5 m. in height; stems with 4 small ridges when young; older stems dull reddish or grey-brown, with numerous but rather obscure lenticels.. Stipules acicular, ± 0.5 mm. long.. Leaves with a slender petiole (4–)7–22 mm. long; blade subcoriaceous, yellowish green, concolorous, or slightly yellower beneath, elliptic to oblong or suborbicular, (3–)4–7.5(–8) cm. long, (1.2–)1.5–3.2(–3.9) cm. wide, obtuse, bluntly acuminate, rounded or emarginate, narrowly cuneate, venation not markedly prominent-reticulate; margin dentate, sometimes coarsely so.. Inflorescence glabrous; bracts ovate, ± 0.5–1.5 mm. long, acute, with entire or erose margin, persistent; pedicels 0.5–2(–3) mm. long.. Buds globose, 1–1.5 mm. long.. Flowers yellowish green, ± 2.5–4 mm. in diameter.. Sepals subequal, broadly ovate to nearly orbicular, 0.5–1 mm. long, obtuse to rounded with minutely fimbriate margins.. Petals elliptic to oblong, 1–2 mm. long, not unguiculate, rounded, entirely or rarely minutely fimbriate.. Disc cushion-like, obscurely 5-lobed.. Stamens with short flattened filaments, widening to the base.. Ovules 4–5 per locule; style short with united stigmas.. Mericarps olive-green or brownish, obovate or oblanceolate, less frequently oblong or elliptic, 4.2–6 cm. long, 1.7–3.2 cm. wide, smooth.
