Culms ca. 2.5 m, 5–12 mm in diam.; internodes terete, 18–30 cm, nearly solid, basally slightly grooved above branches; wall thick, pith spongy; nodes flattened; sheath scars weakly distinct; intranode 6–7 mm. Culm sheaths light yellow-brown, apically purplish, obscurely streaked, striate, glabrous, margins ciliate; auricle circular, small, ciliate; oral setae deciduous, erect, uneven; ligule arcuate, 7–9 mm or slightly shorter, abaxially scabrid, ciliolate; blade erect on basal sheaths, revolute on apical ones, small, involute when dry. Leaves 6 or 7 per ultimate branch; basal sheath densely pubescent, sparsely setose; auricles obscure; oral setae few, short; pseudopetiole ca. 2 mm; blade oblong-lanceolate, 15–20(–23) × 1.2–2.3(–2.7) cm, abaxially densely hairy, secondary veins 5-or 6-paired, base rounded, margins minutely serrulate, apex acuminate.
