Cultivation

Origin: in Honolulu, Hawaii, selection No. 097. Released by H.Y. Nakasone and P.J. Ito, 1978, Univ. of Hawaii. Introd. in 1972. Open-pollinated seedling of Beaumont progeny; discovered in 1962. Tree: 12-15 ft; crown round; very vigorous; productive. Fruit: 2.3-3.0 inches in diam., 5.0-8.5 oz, oblong, rough exterior, yellow skin, mild flavor; flesh 1.0% to 1.3% total acidity, 8% to 9.5% soluble solids, dark pink; recommended for processing; higher acidity and darker pink flesh than Beaumont. Puree recovery 78%, yield at 20 t/ha/year from 3-year-old trees. Somewhat resistant to red­banded thrip.
