Stoloniferous perennial. Leaf-blades stiff, pungent; ligule ciliate. Inflorescence spiciform, composed of racemes arranged along a central axis; racemes with 1-few spikelets. Spikelets several-flowered, narrow, rounded or only lightly laterally compressed, awnless, disarticulating between the florets; glumes 1-nerved, thinly membranous, unequal, shorter than the lemmas, persistent; lemmas 3-nerved, rounded on the back, membranous, smooth, glabrous, entire; palea as long as the lemma, glabrous. Grain elliptic-oblong, plump.
