Characteristics

Plant shrubby. Stems erect, glabrous, glandular, striate. Leaves trifoliolate, stipulate, petiolate; leaflets 1-2.8 cm long, 3-8 mm broad, linear to linear-oblong, tapering at the base, obtuse, mucronulate, nigro-punctate, glabrous. Stipules about 3 mm long, subulate. Flowers axillary, usually solitary. Pedicels up to 2 cm long, bracteolate near the apex. Calyx-tube 2-4 mm long, 0.6-1 cm in diameter, thickly nigro-punctate, glabrous; lobes 1-3 mm long, 1-2 mm broad, slightly unequal, ovate, obtuse, nigro-punctate, glabrous shortly ciliate, pilose on the inner surface. Vexillum 0.8-1 cm long, 0.8-1.1 cm broad, sub-orbicular, geniculate; claw channelled, 1.5-2 mm long, with two slight appendages above; alae 0.7-1 cm long, 3-5 mm broad, with a claw 3-5 mm long; carina 5-6 mm long, 4-5 mm broad, with a linear claw 5-6 mm long. Ovary glabrous; style 6-9 mm long, glabrous.

Tree-like, erect, compact shrub, up to 3 m high, reseeder, forms dense stands. Stems green, glabrous, glandular, and striate when young, becoming greyish tan with blackish vertical fissures and white lenticels. Stipules minute, subulate, spreading, senescent. Leaves 3-foliolate, flat, dark green, glabrous. Leaflets linear-oblong, acute at base, obtuse and mucronate at apex, densely gland-dotted, glabrous, terminal longest. Inflorescences axillary, 1-flowered; pedicels stout, as long as leaves. Flowers purple and white, held above the subtending leaf. Cupulum apical, 3-fid, teeth subequal.
