Characteristics

Prostrate, trailing shrublet sending out long, thick runners up to 10 m long, resprouter. Stems brown, young shoots sparsely pilose, glandular. Stipules ovate, acute, appressed. Leaves 3-foliolate, succulent, densely glandular. Leaflets obovate-oblong, base cuneate, apex retuse or obtuse, sparsely pilose, nigro-punctate, leaflets equal. Inflorescences axillary, 1 or more together. Cupulum 3-fid, teeth equal, situated halfway to 2/3 up pedicel. Flowers violet on thick pedicels, shorter than leaves. Calyx: lobes ovate or acute, glabrous or villous, nigro-punctate. Petals: standard obovate, violet with deep purple nectar patch, glandular; wings violet, longer than keel, flared laterally. Flowering time Nov.-Feb.
