Characteristics

Tangled, multi-stemmed suffrutex, reseeder. Stems up to 2 m long, glabrous, ribbed, prominently glandular. Stipules linear-lanceolate, adnate to petioles, fused for 3/4 of length, appressed. Leaves 3-foliolate. Leaflets linear to linear oblong, base cuneate, apex acuminate, glabrous, laterals equal to or shorter than terminal. Inflorescences axillary, 1-flowered, occurring in upper 2 to 5 axils. Buds elongated. Flowers deep purple. Cupulum 3-fid, two teeth filiform other rounded and short. Calyx: vexillary lobes fused for 3/4 of their length, glabrous, ribbed, densely glandular. Standard petals broadly triangular to trullate, deep purple with large white nectar patch. Petals: standard deep purple, equal to elongated keel. Flowering time Oct.-Jan.
