Characteristics

Rosette leaves 3–5, broadly ovate, 6–16 × 3–12 mm, bright green, margins wavy. Flower stem 150–500 mm tall, slender, wiry, 1–10-flowered. Flowers well-spaced, 1–4 open at once, strongly scabrous, 9–11 × 3.5–5 mm, bright red to bright reddish brown and white, apex deep red-brown, ageing reddish. Dorsal sepal and petals of similar length, both scabrous. Synsepalum bulging prominently in side view, stepped sharply inwards at top; frontal opening flat with median notch. Free points tapered, 2–2.5 mm long, not reaching top of hood. Labellum not visible in any position, narrowly oblong, 3–3.7 × 1–1.5 mm, bright red and white, blunt.
