Rosette leaves 3–6, ovate, 4–10 × 3–8 mm, dark green, margins entire. Flower stem 70–150 mm tall, thick, fleshy, 1–5-flowered. Flowers crowded, 1–3 open at once, externally scabrous, 8–11 × 3–3.5 mm, green and white, apex brown. Dorsal sepal shorter than petals, both scabrous. Synsepalum curved to bulging in side view; frontal opening with shallow notch. Free points narrowly tapered, scabrous, c. 3–3.5 mm long, often curved forwards and not extending above hood. Labellum not visible in any position, elliptical, c. 3 × 1 mm, dark brown, blunt.
Widely distributed, but disjunct and rarely common; found growing in heathland, sedgeland, buttongrass plains and open forest in poorly drained, peaty soil and moisture-retentive sand.
