Rosette leaves 8–12, elliptic, 15–30 x 6–12mm. Flower stem 100–25 tall, 2– across, 1–10-flowered. Stem bracts 2–4. Flowers porrect to semi-erect, 30–35 x 10–12mm, translucent white with prominent red-brown lines and markings. Dorsal sepal point filamentous, 9–1 long, porrect to upcurved. Lateral sepals much wider than hood, shallowly concave, margins flat, densely hairy; free points filamentous, 10–2 long, divergent. Petals with relatively small basal flanges, 14–16 x 5mm. Labellum ovate to obovate, 5–7 x 1.6–2.2mm, thick, fleshy, dark brown, broadly channelled, shortly hairy; margins with 6–10 forward-pointing bristles 1– long; basal lobe thick, with numerous hairs and short bristles.
Widespread in near-coastal areas but disjunct, growing among sedges, tussocks and small shrubs in mallee communities and under broombush; also in woodland dominated by slender cypress pine and drooping sheoak in freely draining red sands, sand mixed with limestone and clay loam.
