Characteristics

Rosette leaves 3–5, ovate, dark green, 10–35 x 10–20mm, margins entire. Flower stem 150–30  tall. Flower erect, 14–20 x 10–12mm, dark green, white and red-brown, tip often strongly decurved. Dorsal sepal tip narrowly tapered, 5–  long. Sinus prominently protruding like platform in side view. Free points narrowly clubbed, 15–2  long, erect, divergent. Labellum just extending above sinus when set, 9–10 x 2.5–3mm, dark, blunt.

Environment

Relatively widespread and sometimes locally common, mainly in hilly, mountainous and subalpine areas growing in tall moist forests and grassy woodlands in moisture-retentive rich loam; less commonly, and flowering earlier, in coastal and near-coastal localities in heathy forest in sandy or peaty soils. Var.: An undescribed taxon from moist slopes and gullies in tall forests of the Dandenong Ra E of Melbourne has green to pale brownish petals and a narrower labellum that protrudes above the sinus when set.
