Rosette leaves 8–15, elliptic, 15–30 x 6–9mm. Flower stem 100–30 tall, 2– across, 1–15-flowered. Stem bracts 5–8. Flowers porrect to semi-erect, 30–35 x 9–12mm, translucent white with green and brown lines and markings. Dorsal sepal point filamentous, 6– long, upcurved. Lateral sepals slightly wider than hood, flat to shallowly concave, margins thickened, sparsely hairy; free points filamentous, 12–1 long, deflexed, parallel to divergent. Petals with large basal flanges blocking off base of opening, 15–16 x 5–5.5mm. Labellum ovate-lanceolate, 4.5–5.5 x 2.7–3mm, thick, fleshy, channelled, strongly constricted near base; margins with 12–16 spreading white bristles to long; basal lobe wider than main part, thick, with c.4 bristles 1. long.
Probably once widespread on basalt plain W of Melbourne but now known from two populations in restricted area, growing among basalt rocks on stony rises covered with herb-rich grassland dominated by kangaroo grass and forbs in red-brown loam.
